A Megaman tribute or ripoff or something, A.R.E.S. is a "walk to the right and shoot" platformer with a tacked on crafting system. It lacks a lot of polish, and the controls seem awkward, but if you're into Megaman style games it might be worth a look.Watch a few gameplay videos, and if it seems interesting, grab it on sale.. this is a good mega man clone. it does take a bit to get used to the controls as you aim and shoot with the mouse and use the keyboard for movement and jumping but this lets you shoot anything in a 360 degree arc. (i didn't bother trying a controller because if i can't use the analog stick with fps i wasn't gonna try it here)the upgrades, armors, and new weapons are nice and make the game fun. i only have 2 issues with is game though. 1)jumping is not perfect and i had issues getting up the one shaft you're chased up with an instant death failure and no, it's not cause of the insta-death! this game did a good job of NOT over using that. 2)this game ends on a cliffhanger and instead of making a #2 they did a remake.. I'll recommend this if you're a fan of the genre. This may seem like a dumb advice, but here's my point :You may really like it if you're a fan of the 2D sidescroller game, otherwise not so much. Why ? becausethis game, though a very good platformer, doesn't appeal to the regular gamer. It does write a longlove-letter to old 2D platformer (and a very nice one, might I add), but won't be a general gamingexperience you shouldn't miss.. A.R.E.S is a fun side-scrolling platformer, kinda like Megaman games (the first thing it made me thought of). It provided some decent challenge (at least if you play on Hard difficulty) and the storyline was a pass. You unlock 4 weapons throughout the game which you can upgrade into stronger versions, 5 levels each with its own boss, so the whole game was fairly short and could be finished within 3-4 hours. Although, there is a lot of replayability value if you want to upgrade all your weapons, find all the secrets and get perfect SS score on each level, and other things that are listed in the achievements. For $5, I'd say the game wasn't bad and definitely worth trying. However, I do want to point out that there is a similar game called A.R.E.S: Extinction Agenda EX which is available for $5 extra (if you already own this game) and is apparently an improved version of this game with more content. I haven't got to play the EX version yet, but I'd say that this game has at least earned my recommendation.. It's a good game. Think Mega Man X series game play. Controls are a little different and take some getting used to. I used a controler and didn't think it was that bad. I enjoyed the story and the music too. It's a short game but there is some replay value if you liked it enough to go back and find all the secrets. As for all my reviews, buy it on sale. haha7.5\/10
